The application process for the 2012 programme is now closed

What is the Explorer Programme?

Explorers is an exciting voluntary programme designed for 16-18 year olds to investigate different aspects of policing, and at the same time support their communities through volunteering.

The programme will be delivered over a 25 week period between January and July.  Explorers will attend weekly sessions held on a weekday evening at Police Stations across West Yorkshire.

The weekly sessions will cover many areas of policing, including:

  • Operations Support – Air Support Unit, Mounted Section, Underwater Search
  • Neighbourhood Policing Teams
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Anti-Social Behaviour
  • Roads Policing
  • Crime Reduction

In addition to these sessions, during the programme Explorers will be offered the opportunity to support their local Neighbourhood Policing teams through volunteering.  Volunteer hours will be formally recognised at the end of the programme.

The programme is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to find out more about modern policing, who is interested in volunteering or who is just interested in the experience and making new friends.
